Investing in professional packaging is a critical step in bringing a product to market. It's a complex process with many details, so we've answered some common questions below to give you clarity and confidence before we begin.
What is your process for designing product packaging?
We begin with Discovery & Research to understand your product and target audience. We then move to Concept Development, creating initial mockups of different design directions. Once a concept is chosen, we enter the Design & Refinement phase, applying the full design to your specific dieline. Finally, we deliver the Final Production Files, ensuring they are technically perfect for your manufacturer.
How long does a typical packaging design project take?
Packaging design is a detailed process, and timelines can vary. A typical project for a single product package usually takes between 3 to 6 weeks. This can be influenced by the complexity of the design, the number of product variations, and the speed of client feedback and approvals.
What information do you need from me about my product to start?
To get started, we’ll need a few key items. The most important is the dieline (the flat template for the package) from your chosen printer or manufacturer. We’ll also need all the mandatory content, including all text (product name, descriptions, ingredients), your barcode (UPC), and any required logos or certifications. Finally, your brand guidelines and information on your target customer are essential.
Do I need to have my brand identity and logo ready before we start?
Yes, we highly recommend it. The package should be a physical expression of your established brand. If you’re a new business without an identity, we can help! We would begin with our Brand Identity service to build that foundation first.
What does a "print-ready" or "press-ready" file include?
A “press-ready” packaging file is a technical file prepared for flawless manufacturing. It includes the final artwork correctly placed on the official dieline, with all text and graphics in CMYK color mode (or with specified Pantone colors), all images at high resolution, and all fonts converted to outlines. We handle all these specifications, delivering a file that your manufacturer can use without issue.
How is the cost for a packaging project determined?
Every packaging project is unique, so we provide a custom proposal for each one. The final cost is determined by three main factors: the scope (a simple label vs. a complex box with inserts), the complexity of the design (minimalist vs. custom illustration), and the number of variations (SKUs) you need for different products in the same line.
